What strategies do you use to cope with negative feelings?

Daily Prompt

It may sound silly to some but recently when a negative, ugly, intrusive thought or feeling pops into my head I rebuke it in the name of Jesus.

It can be something as small as calling someone an ‘idiot’ in traffic. The negativity of degrading another human makes me feel guilty so I’ll pray for forgiveness and rebuke my lack of patience, my short temper and dehumanizing manner. I’ll ask for correction.

I’ve seen results with that tactic on much bigger, more concerning negative feelings as well. Like questioning my worthiness to see another day or the urge to break down with a stiff drink.

With any kind of negativity either created by me or thrown at me it’s dealt with in Jesus.

His presence creates light. The Word gives direction. Faith provides hope.

No negativity that enters my mind or appears in my life deserves to cast a shadow on my life.

How I interact with it needs to be challenged. Sometimes surrendered. And sometimes it simply needs to be cast out.

Negative feelings are real, but so is the authority we have in Christ. When negativity tries to creep in, I remind it where Light lives. And the more I practice that, the more healing and peace takes its place.
